Shopping and Relaxing in Madison, WI
During my ideal shopping weekend in Madison, WI, I would stay in a hotel near the Capital Square. This square is the center of activity in the town, located on a beautiful isthmus with views of Lake Mendota. Best of all, there are many excellent restaurants and bars around the square and nearby State Street, including Brocach and The Old Fashioned. My weekend would start with a late brunch at one of these restaurants, and then I would go on a quick tour of the gorgeous state capitol building. Then, I would walk down State Street, stopping to shop in a wide variety of independent stores. Some of my favorites are Pop Deluxe (which sells modern accessories for the home, with a quirky sense of humor) and the Soap Opera (which makes handmade soap of its own, and sells other luxury toiletries, as well).
